GOVERNOR SIGNS ELECTION BILL
Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill today that will push back the deadline for candidates running for the local school board to file their nominating petitions. SB 3338 (Harmon, D-Oak Park) moves back the deadline for filing petitions for school board seats until December 26, 2012 at 5:00. Previously, the date for the deadline of filing the petitions was December 24 at 5:00.
The bill also contains provisions to set the election date for the filling of the Congressional seat previously held by Jesse Jackson, Jr. That election will now coincide with the scheduled consolidated election set for April 9, 2013.
The bill, now Public Act 97-1134, is effectively immediately.
LAWMAKERS RETURN TO CAPITOL
The Illinois General Assembly returns to the Capitol this week to finish its business for the Veto Session. It is not expected that the larger issues, like pension reform for instance, will be considered this week. Legislators are expected to return to work after the first of the year for several days of a “lame duck” session before the new 98 th General Assembly is sworn in on Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
This legislative report is written and edited by the lobbyists of the Illinois Association of School Boards to provide information to the members of the organizations that comprise the Statewide School Management Alliance.
